Two Twentyfive strategy

Prowell conducts a machine test to begin the preparations for the start of production in Drizzona (Lombardy)

Prowell, a Progroup company, is resolutely pressing ahead with the construction of new sheetboard plants in Central Europe as part of its Two Twentyfive strategy. Ten months on from the announcement of the project, on 14 February 2018 Prowell will be conducting a machine test in the presence of invited guests to begin the preparations for the start of production. The start-up of production at the first Prowell sheetboard plant in Italy, scheduled for March 2018, will see the company increase its production capacity following an initial start-up phase by another 220 million m² per year.

Packaging park – the model of the future

At a packaging park, the volume production from Prowell’s high-performance corrugator is combined with the specialist manufacture of packaging, with unnecessary transport, packaging and handling costs being eliminated. Specifically, the packaging manufacturer is supplied with corrugated sheetboards from Prowell directly via fully automated transport systems. When a packaging order is received at the packaging manufacturer, this immediately triggers an order from Prowell. The corrugated sheetboard production is based on this. The whole process is controlled in a state-of-the-art fashion by integrated IT systems.

Prowell originated the first packaging park model back in 1998. Progroup now successfully operates a total of eight packaging parks with two different models in the heart of Europe. In model version I, the packaging manufacturer is located directly next to Prowell, whereas in model II the corrugator is operated in the immediate vicinity of or under the same roof as Prowell’s customer. In both cases, the two companies retain their full independence.

„The packaging park models will drive Progroup’s growth in the future.“
Jürgen Heindl, Chief Executive Officer of Progroup
Breaking into a new market

Working in strategic partnership with the packaging specialist Imbal Carton S.r.l., Progroup is launching another packaging park based on model II in order to enter Europe’s largest corrugated sheetboard market. The new plant in Drizzona was constructed immediately adjacent to the Italian cooperation partner in just ten months. Imbal Carton provides the land and the hall, and Progroup provides the corrugator, the necessary peripherals and also operates the machine.

On 14 February 2018, Prowell will be conducting a machine test in the presence of invited guests to begin its preparations for the start of production. Operating from March 2018 at the new site will be a 2.80 m wide corrugator which, with a working speed of up to 350 m/min, will produce approx. 220 million m² of corrugated sheetboard per year, operating in three shifts. The plan is to manufacture single-wall and double-wall board in the grades B, B NG, C, E and combinations of them. A total of 45 high-tech jobs for new employees will be created at Prowell S.r.l.

Like all Prowell plants, the plant in Drizzona will also be integrated into Progroup’s mill system so that all the relevant data and orders can be centrally managed with great efficiency. This will allow the maximum synergies and integration benefits to be derived – on the one hand within the Progroup business model, and on the other as part of the packaging park model with the partner Imbal Carton S.r.l.
