The process of globalisation and the ups and downs of economic and political developments, changes in society in Europe, key environmental issues and not least the typical challenges of the industry will demand a great deal of flexibility but also consistency from Progroup through to 2025. With the Two Twentyfive strategy, Progroup is approaching the ten-year period ahead with ambitious projects and actions focused on success and consistently pursuing the further expansion of its leadership of the sheet-feeding market in Central Europe.
In Sandersdorf-Brehna (Saxony-Anhalt), work will be ongoing through to 2020 to construct one of the world’s most modern paper machines for manufacturing containerboard, the starting material for producing environmentally friendly corrugated board packaging. The ground-breaking ceremony took place back in August 2018. After the initial start-up phase, Progroup’s third paper factory will produce an annual capacity of 750,000 tonnes of containerboard with a working width of 9.20 metres.
Total investment | approx. 465 million euros |
Products | Containerboard (corrugating medium and testliner within the grammage range of from 80 to 150 g/m2) |
Annual production | 750,000 tonnes of containerboard |
Daily production | up to 2,760 tonnes of containerboard |
Operating speed | 1,600 metres per minute |

In Eisfeld/Thuringia the eleventh corrugated sheetboard plant in total is being constructed. This new state-of-the-art production site with an annual capacity of 190,000 tonnes of corrugated sheetboard will increase Progroup’s total capacity to 1.55 million tonnes. The total level of investment for the project is approx. 60 million euros. Operating in four shifts, the plant will create a total of 52 new jobs and three apprenticeships.

As part of the Two Twentyfive strategic concept, a new mega-corrugated sheetboard plant to replace the previous production plant is being constructed at the site in Ellesmere Port. Just a few kilometres away from the present site, the most efficient and powerful corrugated sheetboard plant anywhere in the industry is set to be up and running in the first quarter of 2019. An investment of around €85 million is being made to construct a high-tech plant which will set the benchmark in meeting the goal of delivering production that is more than competitive with efficient process flows. After the initial start-up and optimisation phase, the plant will produce 235,000 tonnes of corrugated board with a working width of 3.35 m each year, and thus blend seamlessly into the Progroup mill system.
