When Marc Weigel is talking it sounds like a travelogue: Offenbach, Douvrin, Burg, Rokycany, Poland, Italy and England, each one of them a landmark in Progroup’s progression to leadership of the corrugated board industry. Marc Weigel was one of the first pioneers, and he still occupies this position today.
He started out as an electrician in 1992 with staff number 4 in the construction of plant PW01 in Offenbach. Everyone was under enormous pressure, “In September 1992 the first staff were recruited and production commenced in November of that year”, he remembers. One of his subsequent jobs was to cooperate in the development of the standards for the plants which followed.

„I don't need to rest. The stress keeps me young; I can sleep when I am retired.“

The timelines were always ambitious with the imperative objective of bringing the plant on stream exactly on schedule. The result was continuous communication, rapid decision-making and a job with no let-up – round the clock. Pioneering in the true sense of the word. “That’s the job,” says Weigel, brief and to the point.
He overcame the high stress level by retaining his composure and careful prioritisation. As a native of Alsace he is used to dealing with different cultures – that helps. And his family is always a tower of strength for him. At present he is responsible for the new plant in the UK but is already working on plans for plants 13, 14 and 15. Ready for all eventualities, he always keeps a packed suitcase in his office. “If needs be, I can be on my way to the next construction site in five minutes” he says. “I don’t need to rest. The stress keeps me young; I can sleep when I am retired”
